Difference between coworking and open-space

Discover the differences between coworking and open-space. Choose daily on-site, the best location for your working day.

The working world is constantly changing, and with it come new jobs, new methodologies and forms of organization.

Two visible changes in the way the business world is organized is the work in coworking and open-space.

Bureaucracy-free spaces

Both typologies have several advantages, both for companies and for the self-employed. Since both open-space and coworking share a common denominator, these two solutions are more economically advantageous than renting just one location. Thus, the employer or independent worker will be free of major charges and bureaucracies, such as paying for internet, electricity, water, having as a single expense the payment for the space.

Coworking

In coworking, more than working spaces with tables and chairs with modern decoration, it is intended that the space itself promotes the interaction of people and companies, which, in turn, share physical resources that allow them to develop their activities, receive customers and optimize business.

These are spaces that follow the trends of freelancing e and start-ups, looking for an inspiring environment, something also sought after by larger and smaller companies and, of course, entrepreneurs.

Considered the father of coworking, Brad Neuberg described the new model along the following lines in his blog: “I wanted at the same time the freedom and independence of working for myself, along with the structure and community of working with others”.

It is in this spirit that the first known coworking space was born, in 2005, in the city of San Francisco, in the United States.

This is also the ideal environment for start-ups, entrepreneurs from the most diverse areas, but also for companies.

In the extreme it is like working in a company, but in which everyone works for a different company or for themselves. And this is where one of the great strengths of coworking lies, because by sharing experiences, knowledge and even events, everyone stands to gain. This, of course, in addition to sharing the physical resources of the space, which results in a great economy of financial resources.

Coworking is ideal for those who want a quiet place to work, with all the physical resources they need, and at a fair price.

Open-space

More recently adopted in the way of organizing the workplace is the so-called open space office, which has come to redefine not only the arrangement of space and furniture in offices, but also the way you work there.

In literal translation, open space is… open space. And that, after all, is exactly what it is all about: recreating an open work environment where productivity, modernity and other positive factors can be combined, both professionally and personally.

Open space offices are more open spaces, without internal walls or large partitions, which provide a more equal workplace for everyone. With this model, it is intended that team unity and productivity are enhanced.

This is a form of organization that has attracted especially small and medium-sized companies, but also larger companies that have changed their work organization.

Ideally, open space enhances the more collaborative way of working, helps develop relationships between workers, and appears to be more transparent.
