sitio’s main objective has always been to create a wide network of shared spaces, flexible and differentiated, for individuals, startups, and small and medium-sized companies. it has been like this since the beginning, in 2014, and last year was no different. in mid-2019, Pedro Snow, partner of sitio, saw an industrial warehouse for sale in Alto de São João and did not think twice. this space, which was once a workshop for a home appliance dealer, was about 2000 m² and allowed the creation of an alternative space for the sitio network. “we are always looking for differentiated spaces that can attract and receive the largest number of companies. in addition, this space had a very particular typology in relation to the other sitios. it was, and is, out of the box, with an industrial style. which gave us greater freedom of intervention in terms of aesthetics”.
for a few months, sitio refurbished the space. the company that carried out the work was POLIGONO, an architectural team from the HIMO Group that designs all sitios. like other spaces, in this new place in Alto de São João an intervention adapted to the final customer was made. “POLIGONO always analyzes spaces to understand their potential and limitations, only afterwards does it move forward with its transformation. this specific space was a blank canvas for the team of architects, to create an unconventional working solution. the result: a large space with 18 lofts, and private offices with a mezzanine”. in addition to the workspaces, POLIGONO has created some common areas for use by members of the sitio network – a room for events (the “box” – 250 m²) and a terrace (the “backyard” with a capacity for approximately 60 people – 140 m²), which is perfect for holding outdoor events.

the inauguration of sitio alto de são joão occurred a year ago and it’s currently fully booked out. “we wanted to extend the limits of shared workspaces, seeking to improve the network and offer possibilities to companies that have difficulties in settling in a common office. and, for this reason, this old logistics platform has been transformed into a space with private offices in a different, alternative and cool environment. we believe that its success is due to this, but also to its location, since in the Alto de São João area there was not a large offer of shared workspaces”. the space is located at Parada Alto de São João, a 12-minute walk from the Arroios metro station.
